Guide for Attendees

Prato is a beautiful Tuscan city, about 20 mins by train from Florence. The closest station to the Monash Prato Centre is Prato Porta al Serraglio. The centre is only a 5 minute walk from this station. There is a range of accommodation available in Prato, however we advise you to book early as most hotels are heavily booked during the summer. You can find extensive travel and accommodation information on the Monash Prato Website (https://www.monash.edu/prato/).

The Tuscan summer weather is variable, but can often get quite hot, with average temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. Summer thunderstorms are also common. While there is air conditioning in the Prato centre, a number of workshop activities will take place outdoors, so please come prepared!

Recommend Items to Bring

  • Laptop (free internet access is provided in the Prato centre)
  • Small sketchbook and pencil
  • Good walking shoes (some activities will involve walking)
  • Hat, sunglasses, sun protection
  • Water bottle
  • Small backpack
  • Euros for food and museum visits

Cost

There is no fee to attend the workshop. However you will need to cover your own costs for food (including lunch, dinner, coffee breaks, etc. during the workshop), travel (including local travel), per diems, accommodation and museum entry fees. As a rough guide, please allow at least €350 for the week just to cover food, local travel and museum costs.

Prato has a range of excellent restaurants and places to eat, covering all budgets. The staff at the Prato centre can help with advice and bookings. See the workshop program for a list of offical places to eat and drink.

Cancelation

We have deliberately limited the number of participants at the workshop to ensure a collaborative and productive event. If for any reason you are unable to attend, please let us know immediately as there are currently a number of people on a waiting list to attend.
